Stacked Books On White Background

I believe that reading is a necessary academic skill and also a lifelong joy. Even young students can pick out books and read them with me.

Both expository writing and creative writing are important for grades, and are also crucial to finding one’s voice and being able to express one’s own ideas.

About Me

I have been teaching in the Las Vegas valley throughout the last 20 years. As a substitute teacher, I have taught in all kinds of classrooms in elementary schools throughout the valley. I have also worked at the Las Vegas Clark County Library District, and have been a Girl Scout leader for several years, with experience leading Girl Scouts in Kindergarten through 8th grade.

I have background checks and am CPR and First Aid certified.

My teaching

I teach literacy skills based on the goals of the student and their parents and caregivers. Every student is unique, and tutoring provides the opportunity to assess and teach according to a child‘s unique challenges and learning style.

I believe in using diverse strategies (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) to maximize the effectiveness of the learning session.

Tips For Making REading Fun

  • Make reading a family event. You already have a built in book club!
  • Create a cozy reading ritual. Bedtime stories are particularly popular.
  • Can’t add another task to bedtime? Good news- audiobooks count! Turn off the phones and lights and listen along with your kids. The relaxation is good for adults, too!
  • Make a comfy reading nook. Find a corner and toss together a lamp, a few pillows or a bean bag, and a child-sized bookcase full of favorite books. Voila!
  • Let your kids catch you reading. Children like to imitate their parents and caregivers.
  • Make a milestone out of signing up your child for their first library card. Let them pick out their books. Picture books, graphic novels, audiobooks... it’s all reading!
